Polaroid Makes a Comeback, Thanks to The Impossible Project

As a huge fan of Polaroid instant cameras (I own four of them), I am ecstatic about today’s announcement from The Impossible Project of their success in bringing back Polaroid film technology. Polaroid, which stopped selling their instant film and cameras almost two years ago, will re-release their most popular instant film camera by mid 2010. The Impossible Project, a Netherlands based company who committed to recreating the film for Polaroid enthusiasts around the world, will be producing limited edition Polaroid film as well as their own brand of instant film which will be compatible with previous Polaroid camera models. Apparently the black and white version of their film will start to become available early next year, with the color version to follow.

So now the question becomes, how much is it going to cost?

  • Good news! And B&W is interesting to me... What's the performance of the B&W? What's the speed? Have you ever shot with it?
  • I read at the British Journal of Photography that they just recently figured out B&W and the latest batch is actually coming out sepia, but apparently they know how to correct it. I've never shot B&W Polaroids before. Will be interesting to play around with once it comes out (if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get my hands on it). I think they said they'll be releasing both the 600 and Spectra formats.
